Globally, over 2.2 billion people suffer from near or distant vision impairment, impacting their daily lives and livelihoods. At Al Basar International Foundation, we are committed to changing this statistic through a range of projects focused on prevention, treatment, and empowerment. From outreach programmes to school screenings, building hospitals to training ophthalmic students, our work touches lives across the globe.
One of these lives is Naser, a 68-year-old rug weaver from Yemen. Once a skilled craftsman, Naser’s life dimmed as cataracts slowly robbed him of his sight. Dependent on his grandson Ahmed, Naser lost not only his vision but also his ability to work and his passion for life.

When Al Basar’s mobile eye clinic arrived in his village, everything changed. After cataract surgery, Naser’s world exploded back into vibrant color. For the first time in years, he saw Ahmed clearly, regained his independence, and returned to the work he loved.
